Join Marine Janine for a Zoom / Facebook Live webcast on the ecology and species composition of nearshore reefs of Eyre Peninsula – natural reefs near the coast, and also artificial reefs such as jetties and shipwrecks. This event includes some tips about how to visually record and photograph species on shallow reefs and under jetties, and how to upload your images to the citizen science portal iNaturalist. Over time, images collected through citizen science will help to build knowledge about which species live at reef sites along the Eyre Peninsula coast and bays, and the habitat associations and breeding patterns of resident species.

Through the iNaturalist portal, you can also interact with other citizen scientists, and learn more about the biodiversity of coastal reefs in SA and beyond, and the distribution of species.

The online presentation will be followed by citizen science snorkel events in January at Mount Dutton Bay (14th), Tumby Bay reefs (15th and 17th)  and Flat Rocks near Cowell / Franklin Harbour (18th). A good opportunity to join experienced guides, in finding fishes, rays, reef invertebrates and much more.

Janine Baker (Marine Janine) is a marine ecologist, educator, and citizen science project manager. Who has worked in the South Australian marine environment for more than 30 years.
